Letter from Our President

Diane Childress
Good evening, Sisters!
I hope this email finds you well. As you can imagine, the opening up of the school year has been a doozy for me this year between mold, a hurricane, my nephew, and well...just a busy time of the year for educators;) I am sorry for the lack of communication but I look forward to an amazing year in Delta Zeta!!
I'm writing to share the results of our survey and the dates for our meetings:
>77% wanted 4 meetings a year (maybe meaning they are longer) and 23% wanted 5 meetings
>36% preferred late afternoon weekday meetings, 36% preferred a mix of weekdays and Saturdays; while 27 had no preference
As a result, here are the dates for our meetings this year:
Thursday, October 12 at 5:00 at FFMS
Wednesday, January 24 at 5:00 at MHS
Monday, March 18 at 5:30 at KHES - Spelling Bee
Thursday, April 18 at 5:00 at TBD
Hydration Station Volunteer Opportunities:
Saturday, September 9th from 7:15 - 11:00 at Etheridge Rd. and the main road in Manteo
Sunday, November 12th at 6:30 AM - Location TBA
Look for information from Rendy soon...
100% of you said that you would like to continue the host teams in the same way we've done them...so a host team sign-up will be sent out soon...
You all shared some great ideas on how to recruit new members! I will share those results when I send out the nomination form.
Although I'm waiting for the official list of BT1s from county office, 8 of you mentioned that you'd be willing to be a BT Buddy:) Debbie Whitaker will share her ideas at our first meeting.
We will vote on our projects at our meeting in October as well...
Lastly, here is a summary of the reasons you love being a part of Delta Zeta:)
- The amazing ladies that are part of our group!
- I love that our sisters truly care about one another and that our members are active in worthy causes both individually and collectively.
- Being among high-level educators whose priority is our children!
- I love the fellowship of getting together with other teachers and working on special events such as the hydration station for the marathon. I also like helping new and current teachers in any way I can.
- Seeing people outside of my normal friend group.
- Sisterhood and support
- I love opportunities to hear about the experiences of fellow educators.
- I love volunteering in the community and our spelling bee.
- I enjoy getting together with other present teachers, and also the retired teachers: just being with them and talking through present problems and past successes makes my day!
- Contributing to our teachers, our schools, and our community
- Support for projects that contribute to the community, presentations & camaraderie.
- Scholarships that send me to professional conferences and lovely ladies to learn from.
- I love the fellowship with my DZ sisters, attending our meetings, and love that we financially support high school young women planning to be educators.
- Connecting with like-minded colleagues
- Being part of a community of women that is so positive and encouraging. It's amazing to be around such accomplished people whom I respect and look up to!
- Being part of the legacy of the Seven Purposes
Whether you're actively in the classroom, staying busy as a retiree, or somewhere in the middle, please know how much I cherish the friendships, professional relationships, and support I personally have gained from being in Delta Zeta. I know that sometimes it feels like "one more thing to do", but I hope you will take some time now, to say "yes" to the calendar invites and make being a member of Delta Zeta a priority this year! As always, let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
I'll be in touch soon!
In Sisterhood,
Diane
